Citrulline is what is known as a non-essential amino acid and plays a role in a variety of metabolic processes. It is reported to improve performance by improving the clearance of ammonia and lactate, both of which can quickly build up during exercise and cause a depletion in performance as their levels increase. Citrulline will improve the aerobic capability and endurance by way of influencing lactic acid metabolism, and in this way will reduce tiredness and fatigue in the athlete or bodybuilder.
This supplement is recent to the market so research is restricted to a few studies. However, the results are generally positive and citrulline has been found to certainly increase the chances of reducing levels of ammonia in the body.
