Amino acids are often described as the building blocks of protein, in that our bodies will break down any proteins which we eat into amino acids, which are then used to create the proteins which we require to be able to function in our daily lives. Within our bodies proteins serve many important functions from transport to structure, catalysis to contraction, and probably what most consider the most important is that of protection against disease.
Amino acids are also a form of energy and are used within the body to produce hormones, creatine and citrulline. There are 3 different types of amino acids: those which we produce in our own bodies, those which can only be derived from the food we eat, and those which are produced in times of additional stress or trauma.
